Do workplace practices truly reward the most capable and deserving individuals? Or do hidden biases and embedded privileges influence our decisions?
This session explores the tension in the diversity and merit argument, challenging participants to reimagine this hot-button workplace topic. Together, we’ll wade into this issue to figure out how we can lead in a way that honors fairness and inclusion.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Define meritocracy and describe its relevance to their workplaces.
- Define privilege and describe its relevance to their workplaces.
- Explain the tensions inherent in the diversity vs. merit argument.
- Respond to the diversity vs. merit argument in a way that aligns with their values and identities, using the Better Arguments method.
- Lead more inclusively on the topic, using the knowledge they have ascertained to honor fairness and inclusion in the workplace interpersonally, at the team level, and in the organization.
