Our Board


Constance Durham-Engelstad is a seasoned leader and consultant specializing in board governance, organizational development, cultural change, human resources, strategic planning, and ADA compliance. Her consulting expertise spans financial, energy, services, technology, and nonprofit sectors, with a strong focus on advancing opportunities for people with disabilities and supporting nonprofit missions through strategic alignment.

She has overseen major initiatives, including mergers, talent management, employee engagement, and organizational transformation, consistently achieving positive workplace cultures and improved performance. Constance founded The Shaman Group, Inc., and now works independently on select DEIA projects, particularly in the nonprofit sector.

Her leadership roles include Senior Vice President of Administration at Lighthouse for the Blind, Chief Public Policy and Research Officer at the American Foundation for the Blind, and community advisor positions with Safe Toddles and ISDI. Notable achievements include transforming financial strategies, facilitating strategic plans, leading DEIA initiatives with NIB and Microsoft, and developing compensation and cultural programs for various organizations.

With a BA in Urban Planning and extensive research in collaborative dynamics, she combines creativity and evidence-based approaches to support continuous improvement, diversity, and inclusion. Constance also contributes to professional publications and enjoys mentoring, residential remodeling, and engaging in arts and outdoor activities.
